Our Blue Planet – 2023

Our story today is about water.

water changes form like magic. And it changes form all the time. Water can be rain, rivers , lakes and the sea. There’s also something called (water vapour).

Liquid water can also change to water vapour when it warms up some more, that’s called a (evaporation).

water vapour is made up of droplets of the water that are so tiny they are invisible.(The steam we see when we boil water is not water vapour, Steam is made up of liquid water droplets that are small but still big enough to see.)

when water vapour cools, it changes back into liquid. this change is called (condensation).

its important to not waist heaps of water because its not only us who drink water but other creatures in the world. (some water falls can be seen on mountains, as hail or snow)

why is it important to have water shortages?. its because almost all the water on earth is sea water. Not just that but also because there’s some under the ground, and some fresh waters hangs in the air as clouds or mist. only a very small amount of fresh water is available to use. Water must be shared with humans, animals and plants.

Technology Rotation

Yesterday the Yr 8 & 7 students went to Tamaki College for Technology. When we got to Tech we got told that we were going to rotate. I wasn’t sure what our class was called but our teachers name was Ms Fifita. She was lovely and kind. We started of by introuducing our self and what our value is. Miss asked us what STEAM standed for. S stands for Science , T stands for Technology , E stands for Engineering , A stands for Artist and lucky last M stands for Mathematics. We shared something about us and what we are like. Miss quickly showed us a very quick video of our maunga and spiritual things. There was 4 names miss gave us and it was, Wairua – Spiritual/emotions. Hinengaro – Mind. Whanau/ Whare – Family and friends. Tinana – Strong / wellbeing / healthy. We were knowing facts about these four names and we got told to write our full name on a paper and picture the four names in our brain and write it or draw it down. We pretty much didn’t have enough time so the second bell rang and we cleaned up and packed up everything and said goodbye till next week. I really enjoyed the first day of rotation.

Difference between Private and public

Yesterday we learnt difference between public and private. We placed things that should be on public and things that should be private. This is also similar to digital footprint. Meaning something you post online or something you searched it will never disappear. Like lets say you wanted to delete something of your history. But you can’t because you are only deleting stuff you can see but everything you do online stays on there forever. My private stuff is something not to show anyone, for example would you tell anyone your full name and your password ?. Well exactly the answer is no why?. Because you never know the next day you look on your stuff and everything is gone and hacked and you cant get everything back. So thats why we dont tell people our full name and password. I really enjoyed experiencing things that should be private and public.

Technology – Graphics

Today the year 7 & 8 students went to Tamaki College for our last tech session

In Graphics Ms Spark handed our designs to us on our tables. My group was Lovey, Deane, Te wai, Karma-Jade and Mckenzie. Ms Spark gave us some instructions on what we had to do for our Night Light design. Ms Spark brought strong glue for our design so we can glue our design together, but it wasn’t that strong. We had a Hair Dryer for our design but it was only to dry out the paint we used on our design, but it was only 5 dollars so it didn’t work that well. We began placing our design together and made sure it was sticked together properly. It didn’t quite stick together because some of our designs were to heavy for the glue. Some people made there Night Light designs out of plastic and wood. I made my design out of plastic because when we place the L.E.D Lights into our design it will shine out more better. I enjoyed placing our design together because it came out pretty cool. I enjoyed the last day of our session of our technology class. If Tech started next year i’ll definitely change the Material, Colours and Designs.

Technology – Graphics

Today all the year 7 & student went to Tamaki College for tech

in graphics we planned our night light on a google drawing and had to measure how big and small our night light was going to be . We started designing our night and planning how it’s going to look , we then began telling Miss spark how we wanted our night light to be printed and designed out . She printed our design and we cutted them into pieces . We started putting our design together and it was a success . it was pretty hard because we had to glue our paper together but we made it . we glued our design together so Miss spark knows how its going to come out when we use the laser cutter machine . I really enjoyed designing my night light because I can learn more things about Graphics and how it works .  Learning about Graphics is so fun . I can be an artist or and artist worker . What I like about Graphics is that we get to do hard stuff and learn more and more . Graphics inspired me alot . Thank you for your time .

Technology Term 4

Today the year 7 & 8 students went to tamaki college for technology

In graphics Mrs spark told us to get our zine booklets , we then gathered everything and went to Mrs ferguson’s class room . We listened to the instructions and it went pretty well . We had a laser cutter machine that makes whatever you draw . We made a name tag for our self and design it . We made name tags , so that we know what is like making night lights . Mrs ferguson had a computer that was connected to the laser cutter machine  . We used the computer to design our name tag . How we did was , double click on the text box and wrote our names . There was buttons on the machine which had arrows and other kind of  buttons . We had hard plastic material that we had to place gently in the machine . when we got it to the spot we wanted it in , we then closed the top . On the computer we had our names written on it , there was a button that said , Click here to start , we clicked it and it started designing our names . After when it finished we took it out and wiped the dust off it . It was cool experiencing what it looked like and what we had to do , i learned new things , we sat back on our tables and started finishing off our zine booklets . Then we went back to our class and packed up . I ENJOYED` IT

Long weekend

During the long weekend we had a family dinner for my aunt’s birthday , it was a long day but it was worth it . We started off by making chop suey and rice for the birthday , a while after that we setted up the chop suey and rice on the table and waited for my other family to bring something for the birthday . It started at 3:00 but they didn’t show up . about 1 hour later they turned up . In my family we call it island time , island time is when the party or birthday starts at that time but they return afterwards . They brought kfc and takeaways and gently placed it on the table , carefully because they were heavy . Some of my other family came and brought raw fish and fried bread . Once all of them settled and had the food ready , we started singing and laughing , its apart of what we do in my family . We sing when we have birthdays or party , it welcomes people in our house and greets everyone . My aunties and uncles had the children to eat first because they were the youngest . Most of us full our plates up because of how hungry we were . We sat outside or sat on chairs and started eating . My aunties and uncles had two plates full for themselves , it didn’t really bother anyone because there was loads of food , we knew we couldn’t eat all of them .Playing music while eating was kinda bothering me because i wanted to eat peacefully . I went outside because the music was to loud for my ears . Lastly we finished of with cleaning up and packing everything away . We were not done yet . We surprised my aunty with her favorite cake , which was Red velvet cake . We brang two cake because it wasn’t enough for all of us . So we had one number on the two cake . We then sang happy birthday and my auntie blew out the candle . We celebrated for 30 minutes and then had to pack everything up and clean .

Today all the year 7 & 8 students went to Tamaki College for Tech , Mrs Ferguson was our teacher for today , Well today in graphics we were learning how to make shapes out of paper . We started off by measuring angles and sides so wen can cut them , afterwards we clued the shapes together and began designing it with coloured paper or different art we can do . After that we listened and looked to how Mrs Ferguson was folding her shapes and placing them in the right place . We began following the steps and ended up being a success . We didn’t have enough time so we started finishing up with cutting out designs and gluing them on our shapes , We packed up and said goodbye .
